Guide · Weeknight
Board games for a two-hour weekday game night
A weeknight game night has a hard budget: two hours including the teach, and nobody has the energy for a rulebook. That rules out the epics but leaves a surprisingly deep bench — games that feel meaty because each turn is a few real decisions, not because the rules are long.
Brew a weekday deck and pickaru deals easy-to-medium games that play inside two hours at your player count; connect a BoardGameGeek shelf and it deals from what you own. Everyone swipes on their own phone, and the table matches before the kettle boils.

Meaty, teachable, done by ten
Wingspan
The one to reach for when someone new is coming — ten-minute teach, nobody gets attacked.
Everdell
Looks scarier than it is; the tree sells it and the rules are lighter than Wingspan's.
Dune: Imperium
The best one-step-up game: if anyone has played a deckbuilder, the teach is fifteen minutes.
The Castles of Burgundy
Old, plain, brilliant. Nobody asks to play it; everybody asks to play it again.
Lost Ruins of Arnak
Feels heavier than it is because each turn is only a few decisions.
Concordia
Four-page rulebook, one of the deepest games around — the 'wait, that's it?' after the teach never lasts.
Examples, not the deck: the deck is dealt fresh from the filters when you brew it, so it changes every time.

Questions
What does the preset set?
Playtime capped at 120 minutes, easy and medium weight, four players. Drag the time slider or tap a weight chip in the builder — it's a starting position, not a lock.
Can I link a deck with my own time and weight?
Yes: /party/new?media=games&time=90&weight=med&players=5 opens the builder tuned that way. Weight takes easy, med or heavy (comma-separated), players 2–6+, age 6+/8+/12+/adults, mood party, brain, coop or backstab.
What about heavier games that are still approachable?
Drag the time slider up and add the heavy weight chip. Concordia, Terraforming Mars and Scythe are the usual 'heavier than it feels' picks; Brass and Ark Nova need a weekend the first time.
