Privacy policy

The short version

pickaru is a group-decision app for movie nights, show binges, food cravings, and board game nights. We store the minimum needed to run your parties — a display name, your votes, and your history — and we never sell your data or use it for advertising. We do use privacy-friendly analytics to see what's working and improve the app, with your consent — see below.

What we store

• Account — your email address (if you sign in by magic link) or an anonymous account id (if you join as a guest), plus a display name and country you choose. If you connect a BoardGameGeek collection, we also store the BGG username you enter.
• Party data — parties you host or join, deck filters, your votes, and results. Parties expire and are archived after 30 days.
• History — movies and shows you mark as watched, cravings you mark as eaten, and games you mark as played, so we can skip them in future decks. You can un-mark any of them at any time.
• Game shelf— for board game nights: the games you own or wishlist, either synced from your public BoardGameGeek collection or hand-picked in the app. Syncing sends the BGG username you entered to BoardGameGeek's API; nothing else about you is shared with BGG. You can edit your shelf at any time.
• Push subscriptions — only if you enable notifications on a device; you can disable them in Settings and the subscription is deleted.

Analytics

We use two privacy-friendly measurements, and neither is ever used for advertising or sold. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views, referrers, and device type without cookies or any persistent identifier, and party codes are stripped from the URLs it sees. Google Analytics 4 adds approximate location and session detail; in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland it loads only after you opt in via the banner, elsewhere it is on by default. Opting out below switches both off. Your choice is stored on your device. Separately, our own database keeps an anonymous count of parties created, joins, and shared matches — no page tracking, nothing leaves our servers.

Cookies

We use the session cookies required to keep you signed in. If you allow analytics, Google Analytics sets its own cookies to measure anonymous usage. We use no third-party advertising or marketing cookies.

Where it lives

Data is stored with Supabase (database and authentication, hosted in the EU — Paris region) and the site is served by Vercel. Analytics are processed by Vercel and Google. Movie and show data comes from TMDB with ratings courtesy of IMDb, board game data comes from BoardGameGeek, and the cravings deck is our own artwork. Your votes and history are never sent to TMDB, IMDb, BoardGameGeek, or Google.

Your rights

You can delete parties you host from the app. To have your account and all associated data erased, email support.pickaru@gmail.com and it will be removed within 30 days.
